On September 7th, 2013, L2 Accent Reduction Center was proud to be part of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s 40th Anniversary of public initiatives to bring accessible training and education to the public. Over 100 people attended our Speak Clearer – Techniques in Accent Reduction at the Alice MacKay Room in the downtown branch of the Vancouver Public Library.
Speaker Jeff Madigan covered a range of speaking issues that many newcomers face when trying to integrate their skills into the Canadian labour market. Attendees got to practice different ways native speakers of English make the T sound. They also practiced their intonation so that they can gain more control of their own tone of voice and relate better to their English speaking friends and co-workers.
Our next free workshop with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is on October 8th. This time we will be at the Burnaby Public Library. Contact your local library for more information, or sign up for our newsletter to stay informed.
L2 Accent Reduction Center congratulates Min Xia, winner of our contest draw at the Vancouver Public Library.
Min received a bottle of wine, which presenter Jeff Madigan joked might help her connected speech patterns, and a collectible coffee mug, which might help to increase her rate of speech.
